Maarahval algas jõulukuu 25. päeval uus aasta. Suvel leedopäeval alanud ning pool aastat kestnud päevade lühenemise aeg saab otsa ning algab uus päikeseaasta.

Meie põline rahvakalender on looduskalender. See tähistab ja pühitseb loona muutumist. Algav aasta kannab Maavalla kalendris järjekorranumbrit 10225. Ligikaudu nii vana on meie maa ja rahva ühine lugu.
