Kui me mõtleme jooga peale, tulevad esimese hooga kujutlusse joogapoosid, treenitud keha või võimlemine. Kuid kas sa oled mõelnud, et jooga harrastamine võib kasu tuua ka positiivsete mõttemustrite kujundamisel igapäevaelus?

Jooga kõige tuntuimas algtekstis Patanjali Jooga Suutras, keskendub tegelikult ainult üks osa kaheksaastmelisest jooga teest jooga asenditele ehk aasanatele. Kõik ülejäänud keskenduvad vaimu ja meele arendamisele: meele terviklikkusele, keskendumisele ja kavatsusele, mis ühendatult viivad meid rahu ja positiivsuseni.

Meie meel ja keha on tugevalt seotud. Harjutused näiteks vabastavad endorfiine, mis võivad tõsta su tuju, samas kui füüsiline haigus võib sind emotsionaalselt endast välja viia. Sarnasel moel, muutes aasanaid või enda asendit neis, mõjutame me ka meelt. Mõned jooga asendid nagu ettepainutused ja ümberpööratud asendid, võimaldavad rohkem enesevaatlust, samal ajal kui teised asendid näiteks tahapainutused võimaldavad stimuleerida rohekm sinu meelt.

Jooga on oma olemuselt võimas mentaalne ja füüsiline distsipliin. Mõnikord, kui su keha on mõnes konkreetses aasanas, tahab su meel sellest välja tormata. Jooga õpetab meele kannatlikkust ning leppimist ja heakskiitu praeguse hetkega, õppides kõikides asendites olema täielikus teadlikkuses. Aasana ei ole lõppkokkuvõttes lõputult kestev, nagu pole seda ka ükski olukord elus. Positiivne mõtlemine ja rahu tulevad samasuguse leppimisega eluolukordades, mis võivad olla rasekd.

Jooga edendab positiivset mõtemist ka läbi selle, et aitab meie kehast eemaldada negatiivsust, väikest ja suuremat stressi. Mõned asendid koos õige mõttelaadiga aitavad kehal stressist vabaneda ja võivad vähendada ärevust ja depressiooni. Need asendid on lapseasend, ettepainutus, tahapainutus, kassiasend ja veel mitmed teised.

Iidsetel aegadel oli jooga mõeldud ennekõike vaimseks vabanemiseks. Viimase samm jooga kaheksaastmelisel teel oli Samadhi, seisund, kus sa koged valgustumist ja ekstaasi. Valgustunud joogi oli see inimene, kes elas täielikult hetkes. Sedasorti hetkeselamist võiks võrrelda praegusel ajal muredest lahtilaskmisega: kui sa oled täielikult hetkes, näitkes joogaasendis, ei ole seal ruumi negatiivsusele.
