Uuring tõstab esile loodusliku valgusega kokkupuute olulisust töötajate tervisele ning näitab, et kontorite arhitektuuriline disain peaks võimaldama töötajate kokkupuudet loodusliku päevavalgusega.
Töö näitas, et akendega ruumides töötavad inimesed puutusid töö ajal päevavalgusega kokku 173 protsenti rohkem ning magasid öösiti keskeltläbi 46 minutit enam kui need töölised, kelle töökoht loodusliku valgusega kokkupuudet ei võimaldanud. Päevavalgust nautivad kaaslased kaldusid olema ka füüsiliselt aktiivsemad kui akendeta ruumides tegutsevad inimesed.
Sellised tulemused ilmusid ajakirjas Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.
Päevane kokkupuude valgusega (seda eriti hommikutundidel) on tervisele oluline, parandades tuju, suurendades erksust ja kiirendades ka organismi ainevahetust. Kontoritöötajad tegutsevad siseruumides ning sageli on need akendeta ruumid, mis tähendab, et inimesed on terve päeva ulatuses kunstliku valgustuse mõjuväljas.
