Tervislikud eluviisid võivad aeglustada rakkude vananemist

Füüsiline aktiivsus, tervislik toitumine ja korras unerütm aitavad kaitsta keha stressi negatiivsete mõjude eest ja aeglustada rakulisel tasemel toimuvaid vananemisprotsesse.

Stressirohketes olukordades on tervislikud eluviisid eriti olulised

Sadu vanemaealisi naisi hõlmanud töö leidis, et stressirohked sündmused seostusid kromosoomide lõpus paiknevate telomeeride kiirenenud lühenemisega. Mida rohkem stressoreid naised üheaastase perioodi jooksul kogesid, seda lühemad olid ka rakkude telomeerid. Samas aitasid tervislikud eluviisid stressi kahjulikku toimet alandada.

Seega võivad tervislikud käitumismaneerid alandada stressi poolt organismile tekitatud kahjulikke mõjusid.

Telomeerid kaitsevad kromosoome; telomeeride lühenemisel ja struktuurse terviklikkuse nõrgenemisel rakud vananevad ja surevad kiiremini. Sellist rakulist vananemist on seostatud mitmete tõbedega, sh südamehaiguste, Alzheimeri tõve ja vähkkasvajatega.

Vanuse kasvades telomeerid lühenevad, kuid ebatervislikud eluviisid, sh suitsetamine, kehv toitumine ja liiga lühike magamisaeg kiirendavad sellist lühenemist. Oma osa lisab ka krooniline emotsionaalne stress.

Ajakirjas Molecular Psychiatry avaldatud uuringus jälgiti 239 vanemaealist naist ühe aasta jooksul. Telomeeride mõõtmiseks võeti uuritavatelt vereproove, osalejate eluviise jälgiti uuringuperioodi vältel. Töö näitas, et kuigi tõsised üleelamised kiirendasid telomeeride lühenemist, aitasid tervislikud eluviisid emotsionaalsete stressorite toimet leevendada. Seega on stressirohketes olukordades tervislikud eluviisid eriti olulised ning antud töö tõestas seda fakti geneetilisel tasandil.
